Proposal Submitted To Save St. Margaret’s School

Parent says he hopes group members will be able to meet with church officials after they've discussed the plan during a meeting scheduled for Monday.

A group of concerned parents submitted a proposal to officials on Wednesday outlining their plan to take over its school for grades 1-8 beginning next school year, according to group spokesman Roman Whittaker.

Last month, the church announced it would close the school at the end of this term, citing financial issues and declining enrollment.

Soon after, Whittaker and several other parents formed a group to develop a plan to create a non-profit organization that would take over school operations at the facility, which is located on the church grounds along Highway 74.

Whittaker said after he submitted the plan on Wednesday, church officials told him they planned to discuss the proposal during a meeting scheduled for Monday. Whittaker added that he hoped he and other group parents would be able to meet with these officials as early as Tuesday to discuss the church’s reaction to the proposal.
