PALM SPRINGS, CA — Crews will begin retrofitting work on the Ramon Road bridge this fall to improve traffic and public safety on a critical connection between Palm Springs and Cathedral City.

The project is an effort by the city of Palm Springs, in partnership with the city of Cathedral City and the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. Officials will begin outreach to nearby businesses and residents along the Ramon Road corridor to distribute fact sheets, business cards and other information this month.

The two-year infrastructure project is necessary because the current bridge no longer meets seismic standards.

"The Ramon Road bridge project is a major investment in the long-term safety, mobility and economic sustainability of the region," Palm Springs Mayor Naomi Soto said in a statement.

Officials said the project includes widening the bridge from four lanes to six, shortening wait times with new dedicated turn lanes, seismic retrofitting to withstand major earthquake activity and flood resilience to enhance stability during storms.

Additionally, the bridge will have new sidewalks and protected bicycle lanes, connections to CV LINK and other trails and repaving and restriping of the roadway.

During construction, two lanes of traffic will be open in each direction to minimize disruption to traffic.

The work is expected to be completed in December 2028.
