Man Armed With Knives Shot, Killed By Beaumont Police: Officials
Officers were responding to calls of a person threatening to jump from an overpass and an individual brandishing a weapon, authorities said.

BEAUMONT, CA — A knife-wielding man, who reportedly advanced on police, died Sunday evening after being shot by officers near the intersection of 6th Street and Beaumont Avenue in Beaumont, according to authorities.
Officers from the the Beaumont Police Department and the California Highway Patrol initially were called at 7:44 p.m. to a report of a man threatening to jump from the Interstate 10 overpass at Beaumont Avenue, when another 911 call was received of a male brandishing a knife at a business on the 400 block of East 6th Street, the department said.
Police said the individual, "armed with two large knives," advanced toward the officers when the shooting occurred.

"While waiting for paramedics to arrive, officers attempted life-saving measures on the suspect, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene," the department said.
The person's identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin, officials said.

Officers involved in the shooting were not identified and were placed on administrative leave, which is Beaumont police policy.
The agency did not state whether the shots fired were from Beaumont or CHP officers, and did not clarify if the call of a possible jumper involved the same individual, who was fatally shot.
