Highway 74 Shut Down For Jackknifed Big Rig, 1 Hospitalized

The Palms to Pines Highway was jammed after a crash involving a semitruck and another vehicle. One victim was airlifted from the scene.

PALM DESERT, CA — One person suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision on the Palms to Pines Highway Wednesday, according to authorities.

One unidentified person was taken by air ambulance to a nearby hospital, according to officials. It was not known what the person's condition was.

Highway 74 was shut down in both directions, starting at the base of Palm Desert city limits.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol responded to the eastbound lane of Highway 74 at about noon when a semi-truck hauling two trailers appeared to jackknife on the roadway, according to photographs from the scene.

The roadway reopened at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The crash's cause was under investigation.

No further information was immediately available, according to a spokesperson with the fire department.
