Small Temblors Strike Coachella Valley

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck the Coachella Valley Sunday, one of a string of weekend quakes centered in the mountains north and east of Indio.

On Saturday, a magnitude 2.6 quake struck at 8:22 a.m., preceded at 8:12 a.m. by a magnitude 2.3 quake. At least two dozen smaller temblors have rattled out as well.

Sunday's 3.5 quake was reported as weak to light shaking in Coachella
Valley cities.

Although the southern end of the San Andreas Fault runs along the
eastern side of the Coachella Valley, these quakes were to the east of the big
fault line, according to California Integrated Seismic  Network maps.

And at 1:45 p.m., an apparently unrelated 3.1 magnitude quake struck in
the San Bernardino County desert, with an epicenter 39 miles north of Joshua Tree.
