Southwest Flights Delayed Tuesday At Palm Springs Int'l Airport

Multiple inbound and outbound Southwest Airlines flights were delayed Tuesday morning while the national airline experienced a glitch.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Southwest Airlines halted flights at airports across the nation, resulting in over 1,750 flight delays, including a few in Palm Springs, the airline announced in a prepared statement.

Southwest Airlines travelers at Palm Springs International Airport experienced morning flight delays during the pause in flight activity, according to Flight Aware.com. Those disruptions were expected to improve throughout the day.

At Palm Springs International Airport, no flights were canceled Tuesday. However, all Southwest departing flights were listed as delayed until after 3 p.m. and all Southwest arriving flights were listed as delayed until after 4:15 p.m.

Southwest Airlines announced they were experiencing "data connection issues resulting from a firewall failure." Those issues were expected to be resolved by midday, a spokesperson for the airline said.

"Early this morning, a vendor-supplied firewall went down and connection to some operational data was unexpectedly lost," a spokesperson for the airline reported in a prepared statement. "Southwest Teams worked quickly to minimize flight disruptions."

Southwest travelers were advised to do their diligence before heading to the airport.

"We ask that travelers use Southwest.com to check flight status or visit a Southwest Airlines Customer Service Agent at the airport for assistance with travel needs," they reported. "We appreciate the patience of our Customers and Employees during this morning's brief disruption."
