SR-74 Semi-Truck Drivers, CHP Is Making Sure You Follow The Rules Of The Road

PALM DESERT, CA — A series of hairpin curves on the State Route 74 Palms To Pine roadway above Palm Desert is a frequent problem spot for drivers. California Highway Patrol Officers will be out in force between Palm Desert and Valle Vista, keeping an eye out for commercial trucks attempting to make the climb against the advisement of numerous signs.

As such, the California Highway Patrol is dedicating more resources to patrolling that segment of roadway.

SR-74 is a spot of ongoing trouble for drivers.

The roadway has an extensive set of sharp curves over 44 miles between Palm Desert, Idyllwild and Hemet on the other side.

Even though bright yellow signs warn drivers that tractor-semi trucks over 30 feet from the "kingpin to rear axle" are not advised to take that route, those that do often get into trouble.

"Commercial drivers, please be aware of the vehicle length advisory limitations," the CHP Indio Division warned.
