Stargazing Parties: Sign-Ups Begin Soon In Rancho Mirage

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — Registrations begin Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. for upcoming "Stargazing Parties" planned at the Rancho Mirage Library & Observatory.

The events are from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 20-24 and Aug. 27-31 and will be helmed by City Astronomer Eric McLaughlin or a trained docent, who will be taking questions from participants, as well.

Vistors will be treated to programs, all slightly different depending on the night sky, with an introduction to the Observatory and its capabilities, a “tour of the night’s sky” on the Observatory deck with the opportunity to look into space through deck telescopes and to view one or more objects through the large telescope in the dome, library officials said.
