Local students report on China trip

Three students from Cal State University San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus took a trip to China as part of the university's international study program.

After studying Chinese for 10 years, a business student made the trek to the east Asia in June.

“I’ve always had an interest in the Far East and it was an incredible experience to be introduced to a culture where the United States was going to have the most competition from,” James Ramsey said.

Ramsey, Mauricio Rios Rodriquez and Jose Romero – all of whom recently received their Master of Science in accountancy degree – visited historical sites to learn about culture.

They also met with corporation officials to learn about doing business in China, and compared U.S. graduate business education to Chinese business education by visiting with students and faculty at universities in Taiwan, Shanghai and Beijing.

The men took the trip to China as part of the university’s international study program, where they visited the Jiang Kai Shek Memorial and the Taipei 101 building in Taiwan; the Volkswagen manufacturing plant and the Shanghai Museum in Shanghai; and the Great Wall of China.

“The reason I decided to take this trip was because it was affordable and it is always interesting learning new cultures,” Rios Rodriguez said.
