SunLine Seeks Input Thru Transit Redesign, Network Analysis Study
SunLine Transit Agency plans to redesign their current bus system and is looking to the community for input.

PALM DESERT, CA - From SunLine Transit: As part of its “Rethink Transit” campaign, SunLine Transit Agency is seeking input by conducting a major study to evaluate its bus system and develop a new service plan for the future. The study begins Monday, July 16, 2018 and can be found at http://sunline.org/survey.
SunLine has partnered with HDR Engineering out of Los Angeles, which will be conducting the study. HDR will be reaching out to a variety of constituents for feedback, including board members, stakeholders, riders and the public.
The purpose of the study is to seek opinions, embrace new ideas and explore concepts that will reposition a transit system that can best serve the needs of the Coachella Valley at a time when transportation habits are changing in the wake of new technology and emerging environmentally-friendly travel options.

Topics include a critical review of existing services, as well as opportunities for new and improved services including changing the service format of less populated areas.
“This research will be instrumental as we work to refine our transit system to adapt to evolving travel markets,” said Lauren Skiver, CEO/General Manager of SunLine Transit Agency. “Our entire team is rethinking transit to create transportation platforms that fit with the way the public is looking to travel using our transit network – and this is just one of many strategies that will assist us as we work towards developing the structure necessary for effectively serving a fast paced, technology-savvy society.”

The study will also compare SunLine’s operations and services to other similar transit providers, as well as identify strategies to attract more riders while evaluating transit fares and making suggestions for future changes.
To support service improvements, the study will recommend updated capital and financial plans. The study will be completed by the end of this year, and is funded through a grant from the U.S. Federal Transit Administration discretionary Capital Investment Grant Program along with local sources.
