'Taste of Tahiti' Coming To Desert In ‘Historic’ Meeting

From The Taste of Tahiti: On Friday, October 20, 2017 at 1:00 PM, Mayor Charles Townsend will welcome Mayor Sylviane Terooatea of the District of Uturoa, Raiatea, Tahiti, French Polynesia and the group Te Ana Hotu, who have traveled from the island of Raiatea to perform at the Taste of Tahiti Coachella Valley 2017. This event will take place in the Council Chambers at Rancho Mirage City Hall located at 69-825 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage.

During this welcoming, a chosen representative from the dancers and drummers will perform a ceremonial blessing/chant announcing the meeting between the two dignitaries, followed by a dance and drum routine highlighting their rich culture. The two leaders will then offer an exchange of gifts symbolizing the friendship between the two cities and cultures.

The public is invited to attend and share in this historic meeting between our two leaders.

The Taste of Tahiti Coachella Valley 2017

On Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, The Taste of Tahiti* will bring The Taste of Tahiti Coachella Valley 2017 to Rancho Mirage! Enjoy a full day of dancing, music, workshops and much more. This free, fun-filled festival is open to the public and will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn located at 71-700 Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage.

The fun continues with a dinner Gala Extravaganza from 5:00 to 10:00 PM. The Gala will feature an island- themed buffet-style dinner hosted by the Hilton Garden Inn (adult beverages will also be available in the beer and wine garden); performances by Te Ana Hotu, Ka Pā Hula I Mānā, fire-knife dancing featuring Dane, and a concert from Island reggae band Cityside, a raffle for a trip for two to Tahiti and a silent auction.
