UPDATE: 2020 Senior Inspiration Awards Cancelled Amid Coronavirus

More than 500 people annually attend this luncheon, which was to be held March 13 at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — The annual Senior Inspiration Awards luncheon, originally scheduled for Friday, March 13, has been postponed. The Senior Inspiration Awards Committee will seek to reschedule the event to a later date in the 2020 calendar year.

The committee made a decision to reschedule the event in consultation with Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, Committee Chair and Rancho Mirage Councilmember Charles Townsend, and the Riverside County Public Health Officer.

“The Senior Inspiration Awards event is a special tradition that is about recognizing our community’s active senior citizen volunteers,” said Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. “The decision to postpone this event was made with consideration of the demographics and age group of attendees. We will find another date when we will celebrate our honorees and have a full house of their families, friends and community members showing up to honor them.”

People with tickets will be able to use them for the rescheduled event. Any who wish to get refunds on their tickets can contact Supervisor Perez’s office via ACuen@rivco.org.

“The welfare of our seniors comes first and the decision to postpone this wonderful event did not come without much thought. The City of Rancho Mirage looks forward to hosting this event later in the year, and bringing our seniors together to honor them for their service to the Coachella Valley,” stated Rancho Mirage Councilmember Charles Townsend, chair of the Senior Inspiration Awards Committee.

RANCHO MIRAGE – Tickets are on sale for the 2020 Senior Inspiration Awards, the 28th annual event honoring 11 outstanding volunteers, senior citizens 65 years and older, who inspire others through their volunteerism and contributions to the community.

More than 500 people annually attend this luncheon, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 13 at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage, 41-000 Bob Hope Dr.

“The Senior Inspiration Awards is a valleywide tradition honoring phenomenal senior citizen volunteers from Riverside County and all nine Coachella Valley cities,” said Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. “Please join us as we honor the senior volunteers who spend countless hours giving back to the community.”

Tickets are on sale online at seniorinspirationawards.org. Tickets are also available to purchase by calling Amy Cuen at 760-863-2556 and sending a check payable to “Regional Access Project Foundation” to Amy Cuen, 73-710 Fred Waring Dr., Suite 222, Palm Desert, CA 92260.

Tickets are $30 per person and include salad, choice of grilled chicken with artichoke risotto and vegetables or roasted vegetable napoleon with cheese ravioli, and a mini duo dessert with fruit tart and opera cake.

The 2020 honorees are: Judy Bowlin and Ernestina Salas (Riverside County), Carole Sanfilippo of Cathedral City (1943-2019), Eduardo Diaz (Coachella), Courtney Moe (Desert Hot Springs), Linda Blank (Indian Wells), Maureen Boren (Indio), Jeff Smith (La Quinta), Herbert Temple (Palm Desert), Jack Schreckengost (Palm Springs) and Robert Schwarz (Rancho Mirage).

Brooke Beare and Kitty Alvarado will serve as the masters of ceremonies.
