Trio Arrested After Robbery Victims Held At Gunpoint In Coachella

Guns, stolen property and marijuana seized during follow-up investigation, RivCo deputies said.

COACHELLA, CA — Three men were arrested on various charges following the report of an armed robbery Tuesday on Calhoun Street and El Mar in the city of Coachella, according to authorities.

The robbery victims said they were held at gunpoint and robbed of their belongings shortly before 5 p.m., the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

One suspect was identified by Coachella Community Action Team, with assistance from the Thermal Station Investigation Bureau, officials said.

The investigation amped up, with crews added from RivCo SWAT, the Southern Coachella Valley Community Service District and La Quinta Special Enforcement teams and the Indio Police Department Street Crimes Unit, and a search warrant subsequently was served at a residence on the 83-400 block of Calle Colima in Coachella.

Seized at the site were three, non-serialized 9mm handguns, stolen property, marijuana and marijuana-sales indicia, deputies said.

Arrested were: David Soriano, 25 of Coachella, a documented gang member and convicted felon, for suspicion of robbery, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a non-serialized handgun and possession of marijuana for sales purposes; Mario Perez, 20 of Palm Springs, for suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a non-serialized handgun, plus a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation parole hold; and Armando Villa, 23 of Indio, for allegedly giving a false name to a peace officer, the department said.

The suspects were booked at John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

No additional details were released on the armed robbery or the victims.
