“High pressure aloft over the desert southwest will gradually strengthen through this weekend and move westward over Southern California,” according to the weather service. “High temperatures will generally be 5 to 10 degrees above average for this time of year across the lower deserts and the Inland Empire.”
The toasty temperatures will increase the risk for heat-related illnesses, especially those who work or spend time outside. Residents and employees working in hot zones were advised to reschedule strenuous activities, when possible; wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing; drink plenty of water; take frequent breaks in shaded or air conditioned areas; and watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Forecasters also warned against ever leaving children, senior citizens or pets in parked cars, which can quickly become death traps in high heat.
