Welk Resorts Palm Springs Gets A Makeover
Renovation on 68 units at the Desert Oasis in Cathedral City are complete, while refurbishment on the remaining 92 rooms begins in May.
CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — A massive renovation of its vacation villas and outdoor areas are in the works at Desert Oasis by Welk Resorts, a hotel and timeshare property in Cathedral City.
The work began last year, with 68 units now completed and featuring a refreshed color palette, new furniture, stainless appliances, updated fixtures, window treatments, artwork and larger "smart" TVs. The remaining 94 units and three buildings be remodeled beginning in May with an estimated completion by the holiday season of 2020, management said.
The desert-area hotel is one of seven properties in the Welk Resorts portfolio, a business launched in 1964 when television bandleader Lawrence Welk bought a motel and nine-hole golf course north of San Diego. Married for 61 years, Welk and his wife, Fern, believed one of the best ways to stay healthy and build family bonds was through the shared experience of vacations, company officials said.
