1. Palm Springs airport study finds economic impact tops $2.55 billion ⋆ The Palm Springs Post (thepalmspringspost.com) — Palm Springs International Airport is driving an estimated $2.55 billion in regional economic output, with more than half of that impact and about 8,500 jobs tied directly to Palm Springs. A record 1.7 million enplanements in 2025, heavy visitor spending, and ongoing capital projects mean more local employment, tax revenue, and future expansion plans residents will see at the terminal.
2. J.R. Roberts to step down from Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation (desertsun.com) — Leadership at the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation is changing, as longtime president and former councilmember J.R. Roberts plans to step down after guiding the $34 million restoration of the historic venue. The theater, now a major downtown arts hub with strong ticket sales, still owes the city $10 million, and a new executive team is expected to be named at the October 14 board meeting.
3. Palm Springs inaugural series to benefit Desert X's 10th edition in 2027 (kesq.com) — Palm Springs art lovers can look forward to a new Parker Sessions series at Parker Palm Springs starting Oct. 16, with ticketed talks and performances benefiting the 2027 Desert X anniversary exhibition. The inaugural evening features artist Nicholas Galanin in conversation, followed by a performance with his band Ya Tseen, giving locals a chance to support a major Coachella Valley art event.
4. State Senator says new data center laws will protect consumers (kesq.com) — Palm Springs currently has a moratorium on data centers, and new state laws just signed by Gov. Newsom will require data center developers to shoulder more grid, wildfire, and infrastructure costs instead of local ratepayers. The measures, championed by Sen. Steve Padilla, aim to protect consumers statewide while responding to growing controversy over large AI-focused facilities in places like Imperial County.
