Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Closing For Preventative Maintenance (patch.com) — If you're planning a trip up the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, be aware it will shut down for annual maintenance from Sept. 8 through Oct. 4, with a tentative reopening Oct. 5. Crews will repaint cabins, rebuild a carriage, and complete safety testing and system servicing to keep the tramway reliable for future visitors.
   

2. Seven Lakes Golf & Country Club takes step toward becoming Palm Springs' largest historic district ⋆ The Palm Springs Post (thepalmspringspost.com) — Palm Springs homeowners and history buffs should watch a big preservation move: the city's Historic Site Preservation Board has voted to designate Seven Lakes Golf & Country Club as a historic district, which would be the city's largest. The proposal now heads to the Palm Springs City Council for final approval, potentially adding a 120-acre midcentury complex with presidential ties to the city's protected neighborhoods.
   

3. Palm Springs surveillance debate asks: Who watches the watchers? (nbcpalmsprings.com) — Palm Springs has formed a new five-member Technology and Surveillance Community Advisory Board to review how police use automated license plate readers and other tools. Local commentators debate how much power this board should have, and how the city can balance public safety with privacy as surveillance technology becomes more common.

Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills reflects on 49-year career as he prepares to retire (kesq.com) — Palm Springs residents are about to see a major change in local law enforcement leadership as Police Chief Andy Mills retires Saturday after nearly five years heading the department and 49 years in policing. He's reflecting on guiding the city through crises, reshaping department culture, and his deep involvement in community events, with a televised interview airing Thursday evening.
   

5. County Contract Extended With Palm Springs Addiction Treatment, Homeless Assistance Facility (patch.com) — Riverside County supervisors have extended a contract worth just over $1 million with MFI Recovery Center's facility, The Path, which operates in Palm Springs to serve homeless residents with serious mental health and substance use issues. The agreement runs through June 2027, keeping 24-hour residential care and a drop-in center open while the county prepares a new round of competitive bids.
