Here are the top three stories today in Palm Springs:

  1. A 33-year-old man is accused of breaking into a Palm Springs woman's apartment early Sunday with the intention of committing sexual assault, the Palm Springs Police Department reported. Fernando Javier Hernandez of nearby Coachella was located about two hours after the victim told police he entered the window of her apartment in the 700 block of Los Felices Circle. Hernandez is currently being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on a $55K bond. (NBC Palm Springs)
  2. Riverside County sheriff's deputy Andrew Davidson, 23, was killed Monday morning in what sheriff's officials said was a "traffic accident." Details of the crash were not released; however, Riverside Police Department reported that the only major accident happened on the west end of the city in the Arlington neighborhood. Davidson was hired in Mar. 2022 and was assigned to the Perris station. (NBC Palm Springs)
  3. A Riverside County Sheriff's Department drug sting operation that happened last Wednesday ended with 60 pounds of methamphetamine in the hands of a narcotics trafficker, the department has reported in a press release. According to the department, after deputies sold the drug to the suspect, the suspect quickly drove away at "high speeds" and exhibited a "disregard for public safety." Michael Lujan, a retired captain with the Riverside Sheriff's Department, called the botched sting "pretty embarrassing." (Los Angeles Times)
