20 Guests Escape From Palo Alto Motel Fire
Built in 1964 on El Camino Real, the motel remains popular with tourists.

PALO ALTO, CA — A two-alarm fire at a business in Palo Alto was extinguished Tuesday night, displacing around 20 people according to fire officials.
Fire officials reported on Twitter that a fire broke out just before 9 p.m. on the second floor of the Slipper Inn located 3914 El Camino Real.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze at the iconic motel, and safely evacuate all the motel guests with no injuries reported.

Around 20 guests were displaced as a result of the fire and the American Red Cross was called to the scene for assistance.
The cause of the fire is believed to be arson. Miguel Angel Gamero, 22, has been arrested on suspicion of arson, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, brandishing a weapon at a peace officer, possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia as well as probation violations.
