2014 Fatal Shooting Suspect Arrested in Mexico

Police are also searching for a suspect in a recent shooting. He is considered armed and dangerous.

East Palo Alto police on Friday announced the arrest of a suspect in a 2014 homicide and the identification of a suspect in a homicide that took place last month.

Police Chief Albert Pardini announced the arrest of Antonio Sotelo-Moreno, a 25-year-old East Palo Alto resident, in connection with an Aug. 17, 2014 fatal shooting.

Four East Palo Alto residents in a car were shot while driving near the corner of Purdue Street and Georgetown Avenue around 11:35 p.m. in that incident, and one of them, 18-year-old Nazario Barajas, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One suspect, 23-year-old Menlo Park resident Herson Cruz, was arrested on Dec. 29, 2014 after he was spotted by an off-duty police officer, Pardini said.

The second suspect, Sotelo-Moreno, fled to Mexico, but was taken into custody with the help of the U.S. Marshals and returned to the Bay Area on Nov. 5.

He is being held without bail on suspicion of homicide, three counts of attempted homicide, negligent discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 12 at 1:30 p.m.

Pardini also announced today that police are searching for a Stockton man, 23-year-old Warren Morrison Jr., in connection with a fatal shooting on Oct. 25 of this year.

Jarmal Marquise Magee, 31, was shot around 9:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Wisteria Drive, according to police. He died of his injuries at a hospital that night.

Morrison is wanted in connection with Magee’s death, but police warned that he is considered armed and dangerous and anyone who encounters him should call 911 immediately.
