3 Over the Top Wedding Ideas You Wish You Could Afford

Sometimes people go over the top with their wedding ideas.

There are cute weddings, romantic weddings and kitsch weddings…and then there are luxurious, over-the-top weddings you wish you could afford! There’s no good sense trying to create the all time greatest and most expensive wedding of all time, because chances are, a Chinese couple has already beaten you to it. Here are three over the top wedding ideas that are swoon-worthy, but perhaps out of sight for most people who prefer to spend all those thousands on the honeymoon.

  1. Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming

Angelababy is a model, actress and singer from China and her wedding, running an estimated equivalency of 31 million USD, was a reality show all its own. Their wedding featured a rental of the Shanghai Exhibition Center, a huge carousel-style wedding cake, multiple screens, a holographic castle and a custom fit Dior gown made from 115 feet of ivory satin organza and 165 feet of tulle. The train was ten feet long. All this happened as a result of meeting at a karaoke bar, so never discount what could happen when you give a good karaoke performance.

2. Jessie French and Craig Spain

What better way to celebrate your love and the hobby you have in common, than by creating a Library-Themed wedding? This sophisticated wedding featured an altar constructed of books, an ice-encased centerpiece, and extravagant colors and lights, from gold and clear seats to lavender columns and tables. One of the best touches was the welcoming committee, cleverly disguised as librarians with a sign reading “please see librarian to be seated. Library card wedding invitations were also a nice quirk.

3. April Pignataro and Michael Curry

It doesn’t have to be a luxury wedding to be a quaint and memorable affair. But let’s be honest—if you really want a shark themed wedding, you’re going to have to spend a small fortune on rental and scuba diving equipment. This very aquatic-minded couple went scuba diving and got married in an underwater cage at Atlantis Marine World in New York. They had to say their wedding vows over radio transmitters and of course, with sharks looming by and witnessing the whole event.

A spokesperson for Wedding Sparklers Outlet says, “Planning extravagant weddings for big spenders is always fun but that most couples prefer to keep it cheap or on budget, opting instead to spend more money on the honeymoon or on savings up for future costs of living.”

According to some studies, couples who spend less on weddings seem happier in the long-term. Which does make you wonder if too much extravagance and adulation for one wedding evening is overcompensating for something.

The lesson is, spend only what you can afford to lose and convert the rest of that extravagance to more love in the aftermath.
