4 reasons to love living in Los Altos

Here are four great reasons people love living in Los Altos such as peace and quiet, great schools and a wide range of home prices.

Los Altos is a beautiful residential community in the southern stretch of Silicon Valley. Consistently ranked as one of the most exclusive cities in the Unites States, it’s the choice of singles, families and investors both locally and internationally. Here are four reasons people love living in Los Altos.

1. Peace and quiet

The main stampede to move to Los Altos happened between 1950 and 1980, when high-tech was solidly embedding itself in the Silicon Valley landscape. Between 2000 and 2013, the population rose from 27,693 to 30,010, a moderate growth of about 175 people per year.

The city is among the more peaceful in Silicon Valley not just because of less relocation activity but also because of its restricted commercial establishments, which are limited to the downtown area and select locations along Foothill Expressway and El Camino Real.

2. Close to technology but not in the middle of it

People who work for any of Silicon Valley’s numerous technology firms find Los Altos a convenient location, with easy access to cities such as San Jose, Cupertino, Palo Alto and even San Francisco to the north.

Los Altos itself is decidedly un-tech. Largest employers include the Los Altos School District, Los Altos High School, Whole Foods Market, Coldwell Banker, Covenant Care and the City of Los Altos.

3. Attractive price range of homes

Currently in Los Altos six homes or townhomes are listed at under $2 million. Thirteen homes are priced between $2 million and $3 million. More expensive homes run up to a peak of $6,895,000.

That’s relatively moderate home pricing when you compare it to Woodside, where the top home currently is listed for $69,800,000 and Atherton, where the most expensive home is $21,800,000, with only a single home available under $2 million.

4. Top schools

Los Altos public school students are served by the Los Altos School District and the Cupertino Union School District. The Los Altos School District consistently posts some of the highest API test scores in the state. California Distinguished Schools can be found in each district:

Six elementary schools in the Cupertino district are recognized as California Distinguished Schools. Covington Elementary in Los Altos is also a Distinguished School. Five middle schools and high schools in Cupertino hold this distinction, as does Los Altos High School and Blach Junior High in Los Altos.

Quiet and secluded, a wide range of home prices and great schools. How many more reasons do people have to love living in Los Altos? You’d probably have to live here to find out.
