Alleged Menlo Park Burglar Arrested After Chase

An East Palo Alto man was arrested Thursday in connection with a residential burglary in Menlo Park.

MENLO PARK - An East Palo Alto man was arrested Thursday in connection with a residential burglary in Menlo Park.

Carlos YepezSaavedra, 21, was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, evading police in a vehicle with disregard for safety and violation of parole.

On Thursday at approximately 2:15 p.m., officers with the Menlo Park Police Department Narcotics Enforcement Team observed a suspicious vehicle.

Police said it appeared the person in the vehicle was casing residences to burglarize.

An officer in a marked patrol vehicle attempted to contact the occupant of the vehicle while it was parked, but as the officer approached, the vehicle sped away, police said.

The vehicle then collided with a parked vehicle and an undercover police vehicle, according to authorities.

Police pursued the vehicle through several residential streets until the vehicle stopped and the driver fled on foot.

During the pursuit, police say they saw two suspects walking out of a nearby driveway who tried to flee when they spotted officers.

One of the suspects dropped two computers and a screwdriver. That suspect, identified as YepezSaavedra, was apprehended.

The other suspect was not taken into custody.
