Bike Bridge Construction In Palo Alto: W. Bayshore Rd Closed On October 7

The Highway 101 Bike Bridge project is making good progress! The bridge foundation is almost complete and the support columns are being installed. The project team is preparing for an important milestone to install a 140-foot long section of the prefabricated steel bridge over Adobe Creek along West Bayshore Road.

The bridge section is scheduled for placement on October 7. Bridge components and cranes will be set up on southbound 101 and West Bayshore road to lift and place the bridge over the creek.

West Bayshore Road will be closed during the installation of the bridge from Wednesday, October 7 at 8 p.m. until Thursday, October 8 at 6 a.m. The following detour will be in effect during the closure: traffic in both northbound and southbound directions via E. Meadow Drive, Louis Road, and Loma Verde Avenue.

This closure may be extended until Saturday, October 10 till 6 a.m. if needed to complete the installation. View the traffic detour map.

This section of the prefabricated steel bridge weighs approximately 50,000 pounds. A 265 tons capacity crane will be used to lift and place this bridge over two abutments at Adobe Creek. This is the longest bridge section of the project. Though the bridge won’t be completed until summer 2021, the bridge in its entirety, from ramp to ramp, will be over 1,400 feet long and span across Highway 101 and East and West Bayshore Roads.
