Black Lives Matter Mural About To Meet The Street In Front Of Palo Alto City Hall

Sixteen artist teams from diverse backgrounds will come together on Tuesday, June 30 to create a Black Lives Matter mural on Hamilton Avenue in front of Palo Alto City Hall. On Monday, the letters were stenciled in preparation for the work that begins at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Each artist team will paint a different letter with water based acrylic paint.

On June 15, Council directed the Public Art Commission to explore public art honoring this movement. A panel of diverse community volunteers lead the selection process for the artists. The call for artists was promoted predominantly on social media for the first time ever, helping reach artists quickly who may have otherwise not been able to learn of the project through other traditional media postings. The selected artists submitted a concept sketch of their vision and will receive a stipend for their work.
