Burglars Attempt Break-In By Hurling Garden Statue Through Door

The incident was Monday on Corina Way in Palo Alto.

Two people attempted to enter an occupied home in Palo Alto on Monday morning by throwing a garden statue through a rear door, but fled when a security alarm sounded, police said today.

Officers responded to a report from a woman in her 50s of two prowlers attempting to enter her home in the 3800 block of Corina Way shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, police said. The woman was on the phone with dispatchers when the suspects broke a rear glass door with a stone garden statue and she fled to the front of the residence, police said.

Arriving officers conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to find the suspects, according to police. Investigators determined the suspects entered the rear yard through an unlocked side gate, police said.

The woman was in the kitchen where she heard noise from the yard and saw a person shake the handle to one of the back doors, according to police. When she saw two shadows through the drapes, she activated the home’s alarm system, called 911 and moved to the front of the home where she met with the officers, police said.

The rear glass door broke but the suspects fled without entering the home or stealing any property, according to police. The suspects are described as two people standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall with slim builds. One of them wore a baseball cap, according to police.
