Celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of Rinconada Library in Palo Alto

Activities aplenty at the Feb. 14 event!

From the City of Palo Alto:

Join the Library on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, to celebrate Library Lovers Month and the grand re-opening of Rinconada Library (formerly Main Library).

On April 7, 2014, City Council voted to rename the 56-year-old library.

The library’s collection will honor its namesake by supporting the interests represented by the institutions on the Rinconada campus, including the Art Center, the Children’s Theater, community gardens and the Junior Museum and Zoo.

It will also host a portal to the Foundation Center, a powerful resource that helps connect customers and nonprofits to funders and grants. Additionally, it will also host a local author collection.

On Valentine’s Day, community members are invited to celebrate Rinconada Library’s grand re-opening and participate in a full day of activities.

Patrons can declare their love for the library through a craft project, enjoy a visit from a live snake while listening to a story, learn from an expert on searching for grants and funders, experience the library’s makeX program, listen to music from the Firebird Chinese Orchestra, learn new facts about birds from local author Mike Spinack, tour the library’s outdoor artwork, including Brilliance by artists Joe O’Connell and Blessing Hancock who created a family of six sculptures composed of statements collected from the citizens of Palo Alto in a variety of languages reflecting the community’s cultural diversity.

The day’s activities will also include exploring interesting facts about nearby trees, a children’s storytelling program, and a presentation on the Palo Alto City Library’s past, present and its future.

Renovation of the Rinconada Library began in April 2013. The updated facility includes four new study rooms (which can be reserved on https://liquidspace.com/), a program room, a new lobby, better lighting and air conditioning, ecological and building upgrades and more. Rinconada Library is one of five libraries and an ebranch in the Palo Alto Library system.
