MyYogaTeacher celebrates International Yoga Day (June 21) with 6 special sessions taught by world-renowned yogis and health & wellness experts closely connected to the science and practice of yoga, taking place from June 21 to 24 on the MyYogaTeacher online platform. MyYogaTeacher was named one of “The 6 Best Online Yoga Classes of 2022” by Byrdie.

  • June 21, 9 am Eastern/6 am Pacific (2 hours): “108 Surya Namaskars and Pranayama” taught by MyYogaTeacher instructor Bharath Ram, who earned a M.S in Yoga from SVYASA in Bangalore, and is a QCI-Level 2 teacher with over 500 hours of certified teacher training in Ashtanga yoga. He works closely with students around the world to help them ease stress, boost mental health, and increase strength and flexibility. In this invigorating session, he will lead students through 108 sun salutations and end with a breathing exercise. Sun salutations help facilitate the free flow of energy and aid in detoxification.
  • June 21, 8 pm Eastern/5 pm Pacific (30 minutes): “Divine Delight with Yogashree,” a musical chanting session that helps students deeply connect with their inner self, led by Vidushi Yogashree, who earned Masters degrees in Music and Sanskrit from Maharaja Sanskrit University and has practiced Sadhana for over 30 years. Born into the spiritual tradition of Satsang, she was introduced at a young age to ancient slokas and mantras from the Bhagavad Gita, Lalita Sahasranama, Vishnu Sahasranama, and immersed herself in classical Carnatic singing and the Veena classical instrument. She currently teaches philosophy and chanting in Mysore.
  • June 22, 9 am Eastern/6 am Pacific (90 minutes): “A Yin Experience for the Whole Body” taught by Mrinali Madhukar, an internationally trained yoga teacher specialized in the anatomy and physiology of asanas and yin yoga. She has over 700 hours of certified teacher training in Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, prenatal and power yoga, in addition to Pranayama and meditation. Here, Mrinali will lead students through this slow, meditative practice holding poses for 5 to 6 minutes, allowing the mind to feel the muscles and sensations within, and awareness to travel deeper. She advises avoiding Yin if you are pregnant, have an injury, or recently had surgery, until you have healed completely.
  • June 23, 9 am Eastern/6 am Pacific (60 minutes): “Yoga Therapy Makes the Grade–and the Grade is A+,” a practice session led by Dr. Loren Fishman, Medical Director of Manhattan Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in New York and Assistant Clinical Professor at Columbia University Medical School. Author of 12 books and over 100 academic journal articles, he is internationally recognized for his pioneering use of yoga as an adjunct to treat medical conditions, including back pain, osteoporosis, rotator cuff syndrome, arthritis, knee and hip problems, insomnia, weight management, anxiety, and restless leg syndrome. He is currently studying the effects of botulinum (aka Botox), combined with yoga, to treat scoliosis in 14 to 18 year olds. In this session, Dr. Fishman will discuss treatment of scoliosis, rotator cuff, osteoporosis and weight management through yoga, and his team will demonstrate asanas for these issues, with a Q&A session at the end.
  • June 23, 9 pm Eastern/6 pm Pacific (60 minutes): “Yoga, the Key to Resilient Self-Care in Covid Times,” a discussion led by Yogacharya Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Director of the Center for Yoga Therapy and Education and Research (CYTER) and Professor of Yoga Therapy at the Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University in Pondicherry. He earned a doctorate (DSc) in Yoga from SVYASA in Bangalore and is the author of 26 books, 19 DVDs and 32 compilations on yoga, and the first Indian to be recognized as an IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. He will examine yoga from a salutogenic approach to human health, helping us maintain our health and happiness, as well as break free from conditioned patterns and inherent tendencies.
  • June 24, 8 am Eastern/5 am Pacific (90 minutes): “Iyengar Yoga Session and Q&A with Sri H.S. Arun,” a disciple of Dr. B.K.S. Iyengar who has taught the art and science of yoga for over 35 years all over the world. Arun met B.K.S. Iyengar in 1978 while teaching at a yoga center in Bangalore and, assisted by his wife Smithraji, has taught thousands of students at their Prashant Yogasharya yoga center in Bangalore. In this session, he will go through a series of Iyengar asanas that will create sensations in different parts of the body, and illustrate how props can be effectively used in this practice, with an opportunity for questions at the end.
