Cooling Center Is Open Through Friday In Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, CA — A cooling center at Mitchell Park Community Center in Palo Alto is open through Friday to provide heat-wave relief for local residents, as Bay Area forecasts project high temps will continue this week.

Due to possible wind and other weather conditions, coupled with poor air quality from area wildfires, the National Weather Service also announced a Red Flag Warning in the region through Wednesday morning, city officials said.

The Mitchell Park cooling center will be open daily through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the El Palo Alto Room at the center at 3700 Middlefield Road.

"As the heat wave continues, additional stress on the electricity grid because of generation or transmission outages, or from persistent hot temperatures also remains," city officials said. "Consumers are urged to voluntarily conserve electricity to help avoid more serious steps to protect the power grid, including local rotating outages."
