Dear Palo Alto: You're Invited To Talk Addressing Infectious Diseases

The Office of Emergency Services is hosting a special panel discussion next week on “The Age of Pandemics” as part of its annual reception. Four emergency services volunteers will also be recognized for their contributions to the community.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will occur on Thursday, January 15 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 250 Hamilton Avenue in Palo Alto.

The panel discussion, which will be moderated by morning radio co-host Lissa Kreisler of KBAY (94.5 FM), features three prominent experts from the local medical community: Dr. Enoch Choi of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Dr. Stephen Fisk, Ph.D., of Kaiser Hospital – Santa Clara, and Dr. George Han, MPH, of the Santa Clara County Public Health Department.

They will discuss pandemic infectious diseases, with a focus on how such diseases could impact our local community and what steps the medical community has taken to prepare for them.

Four members of the Emergency Services Volunteer (ESV) program run by our Office of Emergency Services will also be recognized for the contributions to the community. Also being recognized are the Stanford Emergency Medical Services (StEMS) program and the Stanford Health Care Office of Emergency Management. Chief Dennis Burns of the Palo Alto Police Department will be on hand to speak as well.

The evening is the sixth annual event celebrating Citizen Corps, a partnership between Palo Alto and Stanford University to harness the power of the community to better prepare and respond to threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.
