• Stanford Health Care to lay off 95 employees (paloaltoonline.com) — Stanford Health Care plans to lay off 95 non-clinical employees this fall at its Embarcadero Road offices in Palo Alto, with positions ending Nov. 2. The cuts hit technology, IT applications and HR roles, while the organization says patient care won't be affected and some impacted staff may be able to move into newly opened internal positions.
   

• After 15 years, a Barron Park couple's unusable bathroom gets a makeover (paloaltoonline.com) — A longtime Barron Park couple finally transformed their mold-damaged, unused downstairs bathroom into an accessible primary bath, complete with a curbless shower, grab bars and added storage that better suits aging in place. Their Palo Alto remodel, designed with safety and comfort in mind, proved especially valuable when one spouse later faced a difficult mobility-limiting injury.
   

• No smoking, fighting or spitting: Caltrain strengthens rider code of conduct (paloaltoonline.com) — Caltrain has adopted its first formal passenger code of conduct, giving conductors and police clearer authority to address smoking, fighting, spitting, fare evasion and other disruptive behavior that affects riders traveling through Palo Alto. Starting October 19, after a brief education period, new signage, announcements and online information will spell out expectations aimed at making commutes safer and more comfortable.
