El Carmelo Elementary to Hold Home Safety Faire
Topics include building emergency supply kits, bike safety, keeping children safe, local resources, and emergency planning tips

El Carmelo Elementary School is pleased to partner with the Palo Alto Emergency Service Volunteers in providing the Emergency Preparedness Home Safety Faire on Sunday, September 28 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. The school’s multipurpose room will be bustling with approximately a dozen organizations and City of Palo Alto departments providing more than twenty stations with free information regarding a wide range of safety and emergency preparedness topics such as building emergency supply kits, bike safety and maintenance, keeping children and pets safe, local resources, and tips on planning prior to an emergency.
“Working collaboratively with our neighbors is important to us, and we hope this fair will bring in El Carmelo Elementary School families and neighbors alike to learn this critical information. We are happy to have the space to share and are looking forward to hosting Bike Palo Alto in October as well,” shared El Carmelo Principal Chuck Merritt.
Activities for children, a Scoops ice cream truck, gift bags, and raffle prizes will be part of this multi-faceted, free event. Nearly two dozen local businesses have donated prizes and funds along with a City of Palo Alto’s “Know Your Neighbors” grant.

Cynthia Tham, Block Preparedness Coordinator and El Carmelo Elementary School Site Council Member, commented, “We are hoping a reminder like this every year will get more people prepared. Just having enough knowledge to not panic in a disaster is already a big plus.”
