Elephant in the Room : Performing Animal Welfare Society Dir. of Science Visits San Jose

MAR 2015, Ringling Bros. declared it will retire its elephants. What about those still captive in zoos and other circuses? Learn more...

Catherine Doyle will join us for an eye opening presentation Elephants and Questions of Captivity

Founded in 1984, the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) operates three sanctuaries in California, including the 2300-acre ARK 2000 natural habitat refuge, that are home to a large variety of species including Asian and African elephants, African lions, tigers, bears and other wild animals rescued or retired from circuses, zoos and the exotic pet trade. PAWS also advocates on behalf of captive wild animals through public awareness campaigns and legislation.

Ms Doyle’s presentation will address the problems involved in keeping elephants in captivity and discuss the current state of elephants in zoos and circuses.

A question and answer period to follow. Food and beverage will be served.
