It is Passport Day for Santa Cruz Mountains wineries, and Ed Muns and Mary Lindsay from Muns Vineyard will be tasting their high mountain estate Pinot Noirs and Syrah at Vino Locale. Come in and taste the 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2008 Muns Vineyard Pinot Noirs and their 2009 Syrah. Discover how different the vintages can be.
At 2600’ elevation on the Loma Prieta ridge top above Los Gatos, Muns Vineyard is the highest Pinot Noir vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The site enjoys panoramic views over the redwood forests to span Monterey Bay, from Santa Cruz to Monterey. This is an ideal site for growing premium Pinot Noir and cool climate Syrah. The vineyard sits above the fog line and is cooled by the gentle maritime breeze that sweeps in almost constantly off of Monterey Bay in the summertime. In the winter it is not uncommon for the vineyard to be blanketed in snow. The fruit is grown by Ed Muns, with diligent attention to sustainable vineyard practices that produce extraordinary winegrapes. See the website at www.munsvineyard.com.
Bring your Passport if you have one; $10 tasting fee without Passport. Passports ($40) are available from the SCMWA (www.scmwa.com) or at Vino Locale; and can be used again for each of the quarterly Passport events at all participating locations.
Vino Locale is a European-inspired enoteca, wine shop and gallery in an historic old Victorian - very warm and inviting - and a huge supporter of local food, wine and art. Come in and meet the new owners, Debra and Jocelyn! And have lunch here, too. www.vinolocale.com
