First 'Reel Impact Film Festival' Coming Up In Palo Alto

Hosted by the Impact Center, the evening includes screening of shorts, plus panel on storytelling affecting change.

PALO ALTO, CA – The Palo Alto Impact Center will be hosting on Dec. 1 its first "Reel Impact Film Festival," screening more than 15 short videos used by social impact organizations to spread positive messages, drive change and achieve strategic goals, according to organizers.

The Impact Center works to enable the launch of new social impact organizations that improve the lives of individuals in the Bay Area and globally by connecting the ecosystem of social impact professionals, creating high–impact professional development and providing access to capital. The Reel Impact Film Festival will begin at 5 p.m. with a reception at HanaHaus, followed by speaker Skoll Foundation’s Sandy Herz, screenings of the video finalists, an awards ceremony and panel and workshops on creating compelling videos.

“The digital world is opening up fantastic new opportunities for storytellers of all types, but especially for social impact organizations,“ according to Angie Mertens, director of RIFF.

With the number of social impact companies growing rapidly and the explosion of the use of video online, social enterprises must embrace visual storytelling to effectively get their message out and drive the change they desire, she said.
