Free Motivational Interviewing Workshop Planned In Palo Alto

An introductory session to Motivational Interviewing will be offered on Friday, March 2 in Palo Alto.

From Adolescent Counseling Services: Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS), a community-based nonprofit agency dedicated to the healthy social and emotional welfare of local youth, is hosting a free community workshop on a counseling technique called Motivational Interviewing (MI) on March 2nd, 2018 at the Lucie Stern Community Center in Palo Alto.

Professionals who work in education, mental health, and other helping professions are encouraged to attend this workshop, which teaches a client-centered counseling style that is used to enhance another person’s motivation to make positive changes in their lives. The versatile technique has been found to be highly effective by professionals who work in the areas of health, wellness, or prevention and is especially beneficial for those who work with youth and families.

The popular instructor leading the workshop, Rosalind C. Corbett, is a Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor and professor at San Diego State University. “Why use Motivational Interviewing? First and foremost, MI is a way of being! It is a way of helping another in the process of change, a way of expressing empathy and acceptance of another,” says Corbett. “It’s my hope that attendees learn that what comes from the heart, goes to the heart. MI techniques and strategies are inefficient if the genuine connection to another is missing.”
