Authorities will offer $100 for handguns and rifles and $200 for assault rifles — no questions asked — at a gun buyback on the Peninsula.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Got guns? Want cash? If so, good news: law enforcement agencies from around the Peninsula are teaming up for a gun buyback event next week, offering money in exchange for firearms — fully anonymous, no questions asked.
Authorities are offering $100 per handgun, rifle and shotgun and $200 per assault rifle. There's no limit on guns, but a maximum $400 payout per person. The weapons must be functional, unloaded, and brought to the event in the trunk of a car.
The buyback is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 29, at the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church parking lot, 728 West Fremont Ave. Several local police departments as well as the Santa Clara County Sheriff and District Attorney's office are participating.
