Mark Your Calendar: Palo Alto Teens Organizing History Bowl Tournament

News from the City of Palo Alto:

Palo Alto, CA — Palo Alto teens are sharing their love of history and hosting a History Bowl Tournament through the City of Palo Alto’s Bryant Street Garage Fund Program. This tournament will give teens the opportunity to meet other Bay Area high school students interested in history and allow them to practice for the official National History Bowl Tournament.

The free event will take place Sunday, March 7 at the Mitchell Park Community Center from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Teams composed of one through four teenagers will be asked questions related to historical facts and events. Five rounds of ten teams will take place, and the top four teams will participate in final rounds to identify the first, second and third place winners. The first place team will receive a trophy and a $75 Amazon gift card. Second and third place winners will receive a trophy for their participation.

Kevin Ji, a junior at Gunn High School and the grant recipient for this event, states “I’ve always had a passion for history, and I am so excited to share this passion with other teens in the Bay Area. I have attended several history tournaments, and they are so much fun! Meeting other high school students, sharing historical knowledge, and practicing for other tournaments are what it’s all about.”

Registration is free, and the deadline to register is Friday, February 26. Teens can register online here.

All teens must be currently enrolled in high school to participate. Volunteer opportunities will also be available for teens who would like to help during the event.

About Bryant Street Garage Fund Grant Program

In 2001, the City Council voted to lease out property formerly known as the Bryant Street Teen Center with the stipulation that 75% of the net rental revenues fund youth and teen programs. The fund is known as the Bryant Street Garage Fund and is now being invested back into the teen population by offering “mini grants” to teens interested in creating new programs, activities, and/or events in the community.
