Palo Altans Rank High at 100th Bay to Breakers

Several residents of Palo Alto and Stanford ranked in the top five runners for their respective categories in Sunday's Bay to Breakers, including the top females from the 20-29 and 70-79 age groups.

Despite intermittent rain, tens of thousands of eager runners and onlookers turned out for the 100th annual Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco Sunday morning.

Several residents of both Palo Alto and Stanford University made their mark in the race, ranking in the top five for their category for gender and age.

Race organizers reported a record number of registrants this year. Though the maximum was set at 50,000, that number was reached by March, so another 5,000 spots were opened up, which also sold out quickly, by early April.
