Palo Alto Baylands Need Your Help

Volunteers are needed to plant seedlings to restore tidal marshes.

Did you watch the “Save the Bay” four hour marathon on KQED? If so, you may be inspired to roll-up your sleeves to do your part to restore the tidal marshes vital to the Bay’s health.

Save The Bay is in its final push to plant 30,000 native seedlings at five sites around the Bay, with special attention given to sensitive areas around tidal marshes.

“Re-establishing native plants in this "transition zone" is important because the plants provide refuge and habitat for endangered species including the California clapper rail and salt marsh harvest mouse,” Vanessa Barrington, PR Manager for Save the Bay said in a written statement at the beginning of the project. In addition, they “help filter pollutants; serve as buffers during storms and high tide events; and counter invasive species that threaten the health of our wetlands.”
