E-Cigarettes Banned In Palo Alto Following City Council Vote

Aiming to curb youth vaping, the city council voted to ban e-cigarette sales in the city. It follows similar bans around the Bay Area.

PALO ALTO, CA — The Palo Alto City Council voted unanimously Monday night to ban the sale and distribution of electronic cigarettes at stores in the city, Palo Alto Weekly reported.

The initial proposal was put forward by three council members, and came on the heels of reports showing the popularity of vaping at local schools. The city's Human Relations Commission urged the council to consider a ban during a meeting in October.

The ban resembles an ordinance passed by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors that banned vaping products in unincorporated parts of the county, Palo Alto Weekly reported. And it follows similar bans by other Bay Area cities and counties, including San Mateo County, Livermore and San Francisco.
