The City of Palo Alto’s Community Services Department is hosting a special event called “Jack-O’-Jaunt” on Friday, October 30, from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. The event is open to everyone and will be an opportunity for participants to bring their carved jack-o’-lanterns to one of our event sites for a fun display. Participants will register for the location of their choice and drop-off their carved jack-o'-lanterns on the day of the event.

The event will take place at these locations:

  • On the 300 block of University Ave (cross street: Bryant)
  • On the 400 block of California Ave (in front of Bank of the West)

Jack-o'-lanterns will be on display from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30. During this time, we invite the community to jaunt on by to appreciate the creativity of our community! A panel of City-partner VIP judges will come by both locations to vote for their top choice of:

  • Scariest jack-o’-lantern
  • Most creative jack-o'-lantern
  • Cutest jack-o'-lantern

The winners for each category will receive a $50 gift card to a Palo Alto restaurant of their choice, as well as have their winning jack-o'-lantern proudly displayed on our social media platforms. At the end of the event, the participating jack-o’-lantern carvers will be able to pick-up their creations upon request. If the jack-o’-lantern does not need to be returned, we will compost it.

We want to emphasize this event is not a gathering, nor will gathering at or around the displays be permitted. City staff will be on-site to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to see the displays while keeping physical distance. All Santa Clara County Health Orders will be followed before, during, and after the event. Lastly, we’ll encourage participants to make an evening of the jaunt by enjoying dinner or dessert at one of the restaurants supported by the City's Uplift Local effort!
