Palo Alto Housekeeper Foils Burglary Attempt

Police said a housekeeper in Palo Alto on Wednesday scared off two burglars who were trying to break into a house she was cleaning.

Police responded to at 9:51 a.m. to a residence in the 1900 block of Tasso Street in reference to a call of an interrupted burglary.

Police said the caller, later identified as a housekeeper in her 50s, had been cleaning the residence with her daughter when they reported hearing the doorbell ring twice.

A resident, a woman in her late teens, was also home during the incident. Police said no one answered the door, and a short time later, the housekeeper saw two men in the backyard of the residence, trying to force open a rear door to get into the home.

The housekeeper yelled at the men, and they fled on foot.

The suspects remain at large.

The housekeeper told investigators she got a good look at one of the suspects and described him as a white or Hispanic male in his late teens, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build and short black hair.

He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. She described the second suspect as a white or Hispanic male in his late teens and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

Police have released a sketch of the first suspect.
