​Palo Alto Mayor Joins Sister City Mayor On Coronavirus Podcast

City leaders compared notes on how they've managed to serve residents amid the global pandemic.

PALO ALTO, CA — Thousands of miles from Palo Alto, the pace of life is very different in Heidelberg, Germany.

But thousands of miles away on the other side of the Atlantic in a city that also happens to boast a world class university, life has been upended by the coronavirus crisis just as it has in Palo Alto.

How the two sister cities are trying to maintain normalcy as best they can amid the pandemic was the topic of conversation between the mayors of Palo Alto and Heidelberg during a podcast first broadcast on Thursday.

Palo Alto Mayor Tom DuBois and Heidelberg Mayor Eckart Würzner spoke for about 35 minutes on the podcast, which was hosted by the Heidelberg Center for American Studies.

The two cities in 2013 joined up in a “Smart City Alliance” and established a more formal partnership in 2017.
