Palo Alto Police Community Learning Sessions Begin

The Palo Alto Police Department is holding a series of one-hour online community briefings that offer insight into the department and some aspects of law enforcement. The briefings are loosely based on the curriculum provided in the Police Department’s popular Basic Citizens Police Academy and takes community members on a deep dive into law enforcement topics as a foundation to upcoming broader community briefing sessions.

Chief Robert Jonsen will kick off the series by providing a high-level overview of the operations of the Palo Alto Police Department, sharing details about the Department’s various divisions and responsibilities. Chief Jonsen will provide information on crime statistics, response times, and longstanding accountability measures like the in-car video system, body-worn cameras, and the City’s Independent Police Auditor. He will review statistics on police use-of-force, TASER deployments, citizen complaints, and internal investigations. This will lay the foundation for more detailed conversations to come in the subsequent community briefing sessions.
