• School board candidates talk budget, transparency and belonging at forum (paloaltoonline.com) — Palo Alto voters heard three school board candidates debate how to close a $33 million budget gap while protecting academics, mental health services, and transparency in the Palo Alto Unified School District. The contenders contrasted approaches to math placement, advanced courses, and public engagement, while also outlining how they'd work with the new superintendent and rebuild trust with families and staff.
   

• Bloomington and Palo Alto, Calif., mark Sibling City Partnership with simultaneous tree planting (wbiw.com) — Palo Alto residents are invited to a special tree-planting ceremony at Rinconada Park on Oct. 3, held simultaneously with Bloomington, Indiana, to celebrate their Sibling City partnership. Urban forestry crews will plant matching Canadian redbuds, and a Palo Alto scavenger hunt will highlight decades of mayoral trees, underscoring ongoing collaboration with local nonprofit Canopy.
