Peninsula House Garage, Attic Fire Displaces 2, Dog

BREAKING: The cause of the Redwood City blaze is under investigation.

REDWOOD CITY, CA – A fire broke out in a home in Redwood City this morning, displacing two people who live there and their dog, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 2523 Roosevelt Ave. at about 10:45 a.m., according to the fire department. Flames were coming through the home's roof when firefighters arrived.

The flames had started in the attached garage and spread into the attic. Firefighters quickly got into the garage and then went to work on the attic, getting the fire under control in about 15 minutes, according to Fire
Battalion Chief Chuck Lax.

There was heavy fire damage to the garage and attic, as well as smoke damage throughout the roughly 1,200-square-foot home, Lax said. The residents and their dog will need to find someplace else to stay.

One of the residents was home with the dog when the fire broke out but managed to get out safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Lax said.

Firefighters initially reported the fire's address was at 1209 Windsor Way, but have since clarified it was 2523 Roosevelt Ave. The two homes are next to each other on the corner of Windsor and Roosevelt.

As of about noon, police said streets were still closed in the area and would remain closed until after 1 p.m.
