Remember To Mark Your Calendars For Palo Alto's Citywide Yard Sale

Find your next treasure! Maps and item listings will be distributed May 29.

News from the City of Palo Alto:

What does a 1993 Lincoln Mark IV, Wurlitzer piano, spinning wheel and snow board have in common? They’re all for sale, along with a variety of other items, at the over 200 yard sales being held in Palo Alto on Saturday June 6, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come out and enjoy the day shopping for bargains, searching for treasures and saving the environment.

Maps of sale locations and merchandise will be available online May 29, at www.PaloAltoOnline.com/yardsale. Printed versions will also be available in the June 5, edition of the Palo Alto Weekly.

The online interactive map that was tested during the last sale is back by popular demand. “The new map made it easier for people to plan their shopping strategy – so they could get to all the sales they were interested in visiting,” said Wendy Hediger, Zero Waste Coordinator.

Zero Waste Palo Alto and the Palo Alto Weekly have organized the Citywide Yard Sale to help keep perfectly good items out of the landfill – reducing waste, conserving resources and reducing our community’s carbon footprint. “By coordinating residents’ yard sales we hope to encourage the Bay Area community to keep useful items out of the landfill,” said Hediger.

Purchasing second-hand items not only reduces waste, it has a smaller carbon footprint than buying brand-new items, which require more energy to produce and transport. “Reuse is much better than recycling,” said Hediger. “Reusing functional items is good for us, our community and the environment. So you’re not just bargain hunting, you’re making a difference.”

Zero Waste Palo Alto is a program of the Public Works Department. Our mission is to work in partnership with the community to eliminate waste wherever possible and then manage the discards we do have through reuse, recycling and composting.
