Skateboarder Attempts To Rob 2 Dog Walkers: Police

PALO ALTO, CA – Police are searching for a man who tried to rob two dog walkers and claimed he had a gun in Palo Alto on Tuesday night, police said.

Around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery in the 1500 block of Dana Avenue near Newell Road, police said.

Arriving officers were unable to track down the suspect at the scene, according to police.

The victims, two men in their 20s, had been walking dogs with one another on Dana Avenue where they saw someone on a skateboard in the area.

The skateboarder appeared to linger around the pair and rode up to them at the intersection with Newell Road, according to police.

The suspect asked the dog walkers for cigarettes and money, but the men said they didn't have any, police said.

The skateboarder then reached into his pants pocket and told the victims he had a gun, but the victims never saw the weapon, according to police.

The suspect again asked them for money, but when the dog walkers said they didn't have any, he left on his skateboard north on Newell Road as a car was heading into the area, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build and dark complexion, according to police. He had a deep voice and light accent.

He wore a dark-colored sweatshirt with the hood up and drawn near his face and baggy, light-colored sweatpants. The skateboard was small and mostly covered by his feet, according to police.

"No sketch is available at this time; if one is able to be produced, we will release it as soon as we can," police said.
