The outdoor alert system went off a little after 3 a.m.

PALO ALTO, CA – Stanford University's Department of Public Safety is investigating a malfunction in the school's emergency warning system that resulted in sirens accidentally going off on campus early this morning.

Around 3:10 a.m., the campus' entire siren system was activated, according to a statement from the school's police Chief Laura Wilson.

Students were immediately notified that there was no emergency on campus and public safety officials apologized for the inconvenience.
